How to Choose the Best Copy Trading Platform: A 10-Point Checklist

Choosing a copy trading platform: a smartphone showing a trading app

Search for the best copy trading platform and you will find dozens of "top 10" lists, often ranked by who pays the highest commission. A more useful question is: which platform is best for you, given your money, your country and how much risk you can carry? These ten checks work for any copy trading platform or app — including ours.

1. Who holds your money?

This matters more than anything else. On some platforms you deposit with the platform itself; on others your money stays in your own broker account and only trades are copied in. The second is simpler to trust: the copy service never holds your trading capital. CopyTradingSystem works only this way.

2. Is the broker regulated where you live?

Check the broker's licence on the regulator's own website, not just on the broker's page. Our guide to choosing a forex broker lists the main regulators.

3. Is the track record verified?

Look for results from an independent service (such as Myfxbook) covering many months, including the bad ones. A screenshot is not a track record.

4. What is the maximum drawdown?

The deepest historical fall tells you more than the return. Ask yourself whether you could watch that fall in your own account without switching off.

5. What does it really cost?

Add up spreads, commissions, swaps, subscriptions and performance fees. A free copy trading app can be expensive if it widens spreads. See copy trading fees explained.

6. What risk controls do you get?

Good platforms let you stop copying at a loss level, close everything with one action, and limit size. Ours has a fixed stop built in: the package ends at its target or after 7 days.

7. How do you get out?

Find out what happens when you stop: are open trades closed? Can you withdraw on any day? Are there exit fees or notice periods?

8. Is the deal written down?

The fee, the target and the refund rules should be in published Terms, not in a chat message. Ours are in the Terms of Service, readable before you open an account.

9. Is there real support?

Look for a help center with tickets and named processes. Be wary of "support" that only exists on Telegram or WhatsApp.

10. Does it promise anything it cannot?

No platform can guarantee profit. Any promise of fixed daily or monthly returns is the strongest sign of a scam — see copy trading scams: the warning signs.

Scoring CopyTradingSystem against the checklist

Your money stays at your broker; you choose the broker; the fee is $25 per package with a written $50 target, a 7-day limit and an automatic refund of the fee if the target is not reached. There is a Help Center with tickets, and we never take payment outside the website. What we do not offer: a guarantee of profit — nobody honest can. Compare for yourself on why CopyTradingSystem.

Why "top 10 copy trading platforms" lists disagree

Many ranking pages earn a commission for each sign-up they send to a broker, so the order often follows the commission, not the quality. That does not make every list wrong, but it means a list is a starting point, not a verdict. Check the facts yourself: the regulator's register, the published fees and the terms.

Questions to ask support before you join

  1. Where is my trading money held, and in whose name?
  2. What happens to my open trades if I stop copying?
  3. What is the total cost per month at my account size?
  4. How long do withdrawals take, and what are the conditions?
  5. Which countries do you not serve?

A platform that answers clearly and in writing is already showing you how it works. A platform that answers "don't worry" is showing you something too.

A quick scoring sheet

Anything scoring zero on the first or the last line is a no, whatever the total.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best copy trading app for beginners?

The one whose rules you fully understand, with a regulated broker, low costs and a clear stop. Simplicity is an advantage for a beginner.

Are copy trading platforms safe?

The method is safe; the market is not. Platform safety depends on regulation, custody of funds and honest rules — check all three.

Can I use more than one copy trading platform?

Yes, with separate accounts. Keep in mind that overlapping strategies can double your exposure to the same market move.
